Do you remember your favourite book from your childhood?

Do you remember your favorite book from childhood?

I feel my love for books started from a really young age. Growing up I would read story books and although I can’t say that I have a favourite book I do have one that at some point was stuck in my head cause I could recite the whole thing 😂😂.

Is it my favourite childhood book? I doubt it but I did like it very much. The book was titled the ugly duckling and maybe I liked it because of the transformation it went through to become a beautiful swan.

Thinking about the book now I guess I understand the message the author wanted to send across to others. Don’t always look down on yourself or others cause they might be going through a phase and end up more beautiful than we ever expect.

What is your favourite childhood book and what do you think the author might have wanted to pass on? Feel free to share your thoughts in the comment section 😁

African book review; Purple hibiscus by Chimamanda Adichie

Hello people, I am back and as promised, I have a wonderful Nigerian book that you should try.

Purple hibiscus is about an Igbo girl called Kambili from Enugu State in Nigeria. Kambili lives with her mother (Mrs Beatrice), older brother ( Chukwuka) mainly referred to as Jaja and her abusive father, Mr Eugene.

Eugene, Kambili’s father, whom she refers to as “Papa” throughout the book is a wealthy businessman who is also a very strict Catholic who dominates his family by imposing a harsh religious regime in the family home. He is abusive towards his children and wife and his method of punishment are very very extreme. From whipping to scalding his children with boiling water, Mr Eugene sees these punishments as a cleansing method so that God can have mercy on them.

Kambili is a smart and bright girl who has no other option but to be the top student in her class as failure to do so attracts punishment and her father’s disapproval.

Purple hibiscus is written from Kambili’s point of view. Her life with an abusive dad and her brother, 17 years old, blames himself for not being able to protect his mother and younger sister. Kambili lives a life that is literally designed by her father. She has a TIMETABLE that covers her entire week from waking up to going to bed, all activities had a place in that timetable.

Eugene’s sister, aunty Ifeoma is the only one in the family that can stand up to her brother and is not afraid to say her mind. Aunty Ifeoma is a single mother with two children and is also a professor at the University of Nigeria Nsukka (UNN. The school still stands today). She suggests that Kambili and Jaja should spend their holiday at her house as they don’t have the pleasure of ever leaving the house.

Kambili for the first time experiences what freedom feels like and even ends up having a forbidden crush on an aspiring Reverend father 🙃 it was cute but never meant to be 😢.

I will be ending my review here 😸 I don’t want to spoil the book for those who are interested in reading it.

Purple hibiscus is a book that I love. I love the storyline, the author and I have been to some of the scenes where the book was based on 😁 I love the author, Ngozi Chimamanda Adichie. She is a role model to plenty of Nigerian girls and I especially love her writing. Her books take you to the story. You can feel the emotions that the characters feel, their joy, sorrow, crush and tears.

My rating for this book hits the roof. I give it a 100 out of 10 that’s how good the book is. I especially love how strong they all stayed despite the way their father treated them. It is something that I don’t think I can pull through. I admire Jaja’s bravery towards the end of the book.

If you think this book is good then you would love my next review. Last days at Forcados high school 😊 it’s an amazing book that can be read in a day or two depending on how fast you are.

That will be all for now, until next time. Before I go, I want to thank Kent Wayne aka dirty sci-fi Buddha. He has been my secret motivation. You guys should check out his books. They can be found on his WordPress page just search for dirty sci-fi Buddha.

Self Help Book Review; Eat That Frog by Brian Tracy.

One thing most of us struggle with is procrastination and it becomes a major obstacle when we have goals to achieve or work to do.

We start pushing things meant for now to a later time or day which is not a good thing. Even though we don’t like to admit we all procrastinate one way or another.

Eat that frog is an amazing book that deals with procrastination. In this book, Brian Tracy gives us key points and steps in which we can overcome procrastination. The author gives practical examples like work scenarios and also tips on how to get them done.

Eat that frog is an effective book but we can only see results by practising what we read. So if you may have read this book but are not seeing any results, you can always do a self-assessment and find out where you are getting it wrong.

Eat that frog is a very educative book and I have gained a lot from it and I’m sure you would too. The book is easy to understand and the concepts are easy to relate to.

I will be rating this book a 5 out of 5 stars. It is really effective and it is quite practical. I would recommend it to anyone who has a problem with procrastination and if you happen to be one of them do let me know if it works out for you.

Happy new month dears. I know it’s a little bit late for that but better late than never. So how have you been? What have you been up to?

I’m sorry for my irregular updates and I hope you can forgive me for that. So I know this is late but my country celebrated her 62nd year of independence from the Britain government on and to celebrate our independence, I will be writing a review on two Nigerian classics and one of my favourite novellas;

  • Purple hibiscus
  • Things fall apart, and
  • Last days at Forcados high school 😊

I can’t wait to share them with you. Believe me, you will love all of them most especially purple hibiscus 😁

This will be all for now until next time. Do anticipate the books I promised. Byyyeeee👋🏽👋🏽👋🏽

Self Help Book review; Why You Act The Way You Do by Tim LaHaye

If there was one thing that I found difficult it was understanding people around me. What are they thinking? Why do they act this way? Why is he so serious? How is she so hyperactive? All these questions and more would be going on in my head. Why? what? how? I had a problem making friends and other problems when it came to people and I did not understand why.

Nowadays there are different types of personality tests, and different ideas about human traits and behaviours and these things get confusing. I for one find the MBTI personalities confusing and this book was recommended to me and now I am also recommending it to you.

Why you act the way you do is a book that I can guarantee that you will love. It teaches about the different types of temperaments. Their basic traits, strengths, weaknesses, temperament blend and how we react to different situations like our attitude towards work, how we see and read situations, and how different people see marriage. It even goes as far as saying how arranged your room might be 😂

There are four basic temperaments namely;

  • Sanguine
  • Choleric
  • Melancholy, and
  • Phlegmatic

We all fall under one of these as a major trait and have a blend of one or two of the other temperaments. All these and much more are explained in the book.

You can get a copy of this book from any bookstore or as a PDF file or an ebook. There are other wonderful books written by the author and you can check them out in your free time.

I will be rating this book 5 out of 5. Don’t forget this rating was given based on my evaluation of the book. You might not be fully convinced by this evaluation of human traits or you may prefer another theory. But there’s no harm in gaining more useful knowledge.

So that will be all until my next review.

Beauty and the Beasts book review by White-headed dream.

Bai Qinqin a 16 years old Chinese girl went to the mountains to pray for blessings when she trips on something and somehow magically ends up in a world of beastmen with really good-looking males and females that look the opposite.

In this beast world, the ratio of females to males is around 1:7 which means that females are very scarce and are cherished by the males. A female can have as many partners as she wants and is considered the head of the family.

Qinqin is saved from a pack of wolves by Parker, a leopard and is immediately “claimed” by him as his reward for saving her. Long story short Qinqin has no other option than to go with the leopard, she gets kidnapped by a snake named Curtis who later on becomes one of her spouses. Now Qinqin has two partners and is still being sort after by other males but Curtis is too jealous to allow anyone to get close to her.

Beauty and the Beasts is a romance and fictional novel. It is one of the books polyandry that I’ve read (maybe my next review should be about the other) and it’s sort of a reverse harem thing. I really like the storyline and how the scenes are described. It has a way of allowing your mind to create a whole movie. The storyline is amazing and it makes you want to read more.

The characters are really good-looking and droll-worthy. My favourite male character is Winston 😍 he’s really cute. You’ll understand what I mean when you read the comic.

🤤🤤🤤

What I don’t like though is the length. Now, the storyline might be good but at times when a book drags on the readers might lose interest. This has been a major flaw in all the eastern book reviews I’ve written so far but apart from that, I have no other problem.

The book can be found on Webnovel and like my last three reviews, this book also has a comic book which can also be found on Webnovel. I also know where you can get them both for free without having to pay or buy coins. All you just have to do is drop a comment and I will share this information with you it will be our little secret 😉

I will be rating this book a 5 out of 5 stars. I would recommend it to any book lover and if you find it too long you can always go for the comic instead.

Book Review: Library of heaven’s path by Heng Sao Tian Ya

Hello lovely readers, how are you feeling today, I hope everything is going well.

Today’s review is all about novels from Asia. China to be precise. My last two reviews were also based on books from Chinese authors and you can check them later if you haven’t done that already.

Library of heaven’s path is about a young man called Zhang Xaun who died and his soul was traversed into a world of martial arts where strength is supreme. Zhang Xaun finds himself in the body of a lowly teacher who has a very bad reputation as the school trash teacher and is on the verge of losing his job if he doesn’t get any students by the end of the admission process.

Zhang Xaun’s reputation is so bad that even students who are yet to enter the school know how terrible he is but the current Zhang Xaun (the new soul) does not plan on giving up that easily. He makes up his mind about getting students even if he has to lie to get them.

After his transcending, Zhang Xaun finds a mysterious library in his mind that is capable of giving him the flaws of anything or anyone he sees or come in contact with. With this heavenly cheat library, Zhang Xaun plans on climbing up the ladder of success and will work hard to leave this present misery.

Library of heaven’s path is a fictional novel with martial arts and cultivation as the major topics. Now although it might sound boring probably because of this review, the book is actually funny most especially the main characters miserly habits.

This book can be found on Webnovel and it also has a comic book which can also be found on Webnovel. Just like my last two reviews I also know a place where you can get these books for free and all you have to do is drop a comment.

I would rate this book a 5 out of 5 as I really enjoyed it and I would recommend it to anyone. What I don’t like about the book though is the MCs exaggerating strength (although it seems nice at times) and how undefeated he is.

Don’t forget to like, comment and follow me if you haven’t so that you can know when next I drop a review.

Bye… 👋👋

Book review: Trial marriage husband: need to work hard by Passion Honey

Hey hey hey. I’m back with another wonderful and amazing book for you because I love you guys 💗.

This review like the last one is also about a Chinese novel and if you haven’t read it you should or you would be missing out on an amazing review.

So this book is about another wonderful lady who goes by the name Tangning (I’m starting to wonder why most romance novels have females as the main characters. If you know a book that has a different storyline do recommend it in the comments)

Tangning is a model who retired early because she was about to get married and her fiance wanted her to focus on the family instead. Surprisingly to her, she accidentally catches him cheating a day before the wedding with another model Mo Yurou, who she gave all her jobs and sometimes even covered for her under the instructions given to her by her boss/fiance.

Turns out that Han Yufan, her fiance, never loved her and only wanted to get married to her because of her family’s wealth.

On the day of the wedding, Han Yufan stands her up with the excuse that Mo Yurou injured her legs and he had to take her to the hospital. Angry, Tangning approaches a man who is known as the king of entertainment, the number one boss in the entertainment industry and asks him to marry her because his wife-to-be was late and well they both got married.

Tangning promises to destroy everything Han Yufan and Mo Yurou have worked for but refuses to get help from her husband as it’s a small matter and does not need his intervention. Tangning also asks Mo Ting not to announce their marriage because she wasn’t up to the level to be called his wife. She now has to work hard to get back everything she’s lost and more to build her status and become worthy of standing next to Mr Mo and take the title of Mrs Mo.

Trial marriage husband is a contemporary romance novel. It is a novel about a woman’s fight to the top of her field and the obstacles faced on the way. This book has a lot of schemes, face slapping, rumours and abuse of power and status.

What I love about this book is the love shared between the Mo couple and how they support each other. I also admire Tangning’s will to stand despite the problems she faces.

I’ll rate this book 4 stars out of 5. 4 stars because although the storyline is nice, the book is kind of predictable and you know that this is going to be the outcome of a particular matter. I enjoyed the book but I don’t think it deserves 5 stars you may think otherwise.

Just like the last book I reviewed, this book also has a comic book and they can both be found on Webnovel and I can also tell you where to read the books without having to pay coins or anything to read, all you just have to do is drop a comment and I will let you in on the info.
